COMPRESS FEST

When I'm not painting and teaching I am organizing art events through the Media Arts Project , a local npo of which I am on the board. OnThursday November 14th we are having a fundraiser at The Fine Arts Theatre in downtown Asheville called COMPRESS FEST 7pm-10pm.

We will be screening short videos - no longer than 5 minutes in length - made by regional videographers, or producers with ties to the region. The line-up of videos is incredibly diverse -- from slick commercial productions to edgier experimental videos. We have movie trailers, comedy, glitch, artist profiles and even a couple cell phone videos.

When selecting the videos we were looking for work that demonstrates a certain level of technical proficiency, has entertainment value, social relevance or narrative interest, and/or uses the video platform in an innovative or unexpected way.

As video production technology becomes more ubiquitous, more people are making movies and putting them online. COMPRESS FEST is an attempt to merge the online experience with the cinematic experience by creating an arena for the community to watch each other’s movies together. We are fortunate to have the help of The Fine Arts Theatre to provide a large public venue to spotlight motion-media makers of the region.

Ultimately we have over 20 artists' in the line-up. To see the full roster visit: http://www.themap.org/map/?section=news&article=236

I encourage those of you in Asheville to come downtown for a night of fun.
